Skill Level: Beginner - Intermediate as we will be learning
how to create your own script and then use that script.
Supplies Needed:
Image of choice (An image with lots of color all over the image will work
best. An image with one color on the top and a different pattern on the
bottom with one of the patterns being rather plain won't work well at
all.)
PSP XI - Can be done in earlier and later
versions but menus may differ slightly.
Simple Filters

To make things easier I've broken it down into 3 parts:
Part 1: Preparation
Part 2: Making the Background
Part 3: Making the Header
NOTE: All settings will remain the same unless otherwise
specified.

Part 1: Preparation
1. File > Open
Image of choice
2. Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close your original
3. Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Resize all layers = Checked
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Width & Height = No more than 500 Pixels
4. Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00
Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
5. Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Duplicate your image again and minimize one copy.
6. Dropper Tool (E)
Left click for a dark Foreground color.
Right click for a light Background color.
7. Edit > Copy (Ctrl + C)
Part 2: Making the Background
1. Optional: Image > Resize
Settings:
Width & Height = No larger than 400
NOTE: Clarity doesn't matter, it can be blurry. It won't matter
in a moment. If you want a larger background tile feel free to skip the
resizing step.
2. Effects > Plugins > Toadies > What Are You?
Settings:
X & Y-dose = 147
3. Effects > Plugins > Toadies > Weaver
Settings:
(Default)

4. Effects > Image > Seamless Tiling
Settings:

5. Layers > New Raster Layer
6. Flood Fill Tool (F)
Fill this layer with your light color, dark color, or white (whichever you
decide looks best).
7. In your layers palette, lower the opacity of your colored layer so you
can see the pattern but are still able to read text.
8. File > Save
Settings:
Choose a name that you'll remember.
9. File > Export > JPEG Optimization
Settings:
Set compression value = 15 - 25%
10. Minimize, but don't close out as we will need it later.
Part 3: Making the Header
1. Switch to your other minimized copy of your image.
2. Selections > Select All
3. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:

NOTE: We are going to make a script here, so please play close
attention to the following directions. If you do not follow my
instructions exactly the script will not work right.
4. If your script toolbar is not showing, follow this step to show your
toolbar.
View > Toolbars > Script
5. Click on this button
in your Script Toolbar to Start Script Recording.
6. Selections > Select None (Ctrl + D)
7. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 2
Color = Dark Color (Foreground)
Symmetric = Checked
8. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Light Color (Background)
9. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Dark Color (Foreground)
10. Selections > Select All
11. Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Pixels = 6
12. Selections > Invert
13. Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
Settings:

14. Selections > Select None
15. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 5
Color = Light Color (Background)
16. Selections > Select All
17. Selections > Modify Contract
Settings:
Pixels = 5
18. Selections > Invert
19. Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise
Settings:
Gaussian = Checked
Noise = 15%
Monochrome = Checked
20. Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
21. Selections > Select None
22. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 2
Color = Dark Color (Foreground)
23. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Light Color (Background)
24. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Dark Color (Foreground)
25. Selections > Select All
26. Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Pixels = 6
27. Selections > Invert
28. Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel
29. In your Script Toolbar click on this button to save your script. Give
your script a name that you will remember to associate with this tutorial.
30. Selections > Select None
31. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 10
Color = White
32. Selections > Select All
33. Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Pixels = 10
34. Selections > Invert
35. Effects > Plugins > Simple > Centre Tile
36. Selections > Invert
37. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
V & H = 3
Opacity = 65
Blur = 5
Color = Black
Shadow on new layer = Unchecked
38. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
V & H = -3 (minus 3)

First make sure #3 is toggled. Then press #1 and find the script we made
earlier. Then press #2 to start your script.
40. Click ok through all the menus that pop up. If you don't want the
menus to pop up toggle #3 (see picture in step 39) the opposite way it's
shown in this picture).
41. Selections > Select None
42. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 25
Color = White
43. Selections > Select All
44. Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Pixels = 25
45. Selections > Invert
46. In your Materials Palette, make your Foreground a pattern and choose
your background tile we made before.
Settings:
Angle = 0
Scale = 100
Texture = Unchecked
47. Flood Fill Tool (F)
Fill your border with your pattern.
NOTE: If you feel you don't see the pattern as much as you'd
like it to be shown, you can either lower the opacity of the plain colored
layer on the background tile or you can hide that layer all together. Feel
free to experiment. Just remember if you do make a change on the
background tile to choose the background tile in the Materials Palette
too. :)
48. Selections > Invert
49. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
50. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Settings:
V & H = 3
51. Selections > Invert
52. Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)
53. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
54. Click
to run your script again.
55. Selections > Select None
56. Image > Resize
Settings:
V & H = No more than 600 Pixels
57. Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
58. Layers > New Raster Layer
59. Apply the artist's watermark.
60. Layers > New Raster Layer
61. Apply your watermark.

This tutorial is my own creation, any resemblance to any other tutorial is
purely coincidental. :)
I want to thank the Tenacious Tut Testers for helping me work through this
