Supplies Needed:
PSP XI - Will work in earlier and later versions but some tools may be in
different places.
An image of choice - One with deeper richer colors works better than an
image that is very light.
Simple Filters - Grab the bonus ones too :)
To make this easier, I've broken this down into 3 parts.
Part 1: Preparation
Part 2: Making the Frame
Part 3: Making the Background
NOTE: All settings will remain the same unless otherwise
specified.

Part 1: Preparation
1. File > Open
Image of choice
2. Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close your original
3. Image > Resize
Settings:
Resample using = Bicubic
Resize all layers = Checked
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Width & Height = No more than 500 Pixels
4. Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00
Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked
5. Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Duplicate your image and minimize one copy for later.
6. Dropper Tool (E)
Left click for a dark Foreground color.
Right click for a light Background color.
7. Edit > Copy (Ctrl + C)
Part 2: Making the Frame
1. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Pixels = 1 Pixel
Color = Black
2. Selections > Select All
3. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
V & H = 2
Opacity = 60
Blur = 13
Color = Black
Fill interior with color = Unchecked
4. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
V & H = -2 (minus 2)
5. Selections > Select None
6. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 2 Pixels
Color = Light Color (Background)
7. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 5 Pixels
Color = Dark Color (Foreground)
8. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 2
Color = Light Color (Background)
9. Selections > Select All
10. Selections > Modify > Contract

Color = Black
NOTE: If the frame is too big for your tastes the next 2 steps
will reduce its size. If you like it as it is, skip ahead to step 41.
39. Image > Resize
Settings:
W & H = 550 - 600
40. Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
41. Layers > New Layer
42. Add the artist's watermark.
43. Layers > New Layer
44. Add the your watermark.
45. File > Save
Save the image as a .pspimage file so you can make changes to it later if
you need to.
46. File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Export it as a jpg with a compression of about 20-25%.
Part 3: Making The Background
1. File > New (Ctrl + N)
Settings:
Width & Height = 300 Pixels
Raster Background = Checked
Color depth = RGB - 8 bits/channel
Transparent = Checked
2. Selections > Select All
3. Edit > Paste > Paste Into Selection (Ctrl + Shift + L)
(If your image isn't on your clipboard anymore go back to the minimized
copy of your image and go to Edit > Copy (Ctrl + C) then back to your new
tile.
4. Selections > Select None
5. Effects > Plugins > Simple > Quick Tile
6. Effects > Plugins > Simple > Diamonds
7. Effects > Plugins > Simple > 4 Way Average
8. Layers > New Raster Layer
9. Flood Fill Tool (F)
Fill your new layer with either your light color or your dark color. Some
testers found that one color worked better than the other. It really
depends on your image. Try both and see which one you like better. :)
10. Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise
Settings:
Noise = 10%
11. Effects > Add/Remove Noise > Salt and Pepper Filter
Settings:
Speck size (pixels) = 3
Sensitivity to specks = 2
Include all lower spec sizes = Checked
Aggressive action = Checked
12. Lower the opacity of this layer between 60-80%. Make sure text can be
easily read on it.
13. File > Save
Save as a .pspimage file in case you need to make changes later.
14. File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
Export your background tile.
That's it, we're done!
