Fun Kaleidoscope Frame Set Tut © Made by Lysa™

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Skill Level = Intermediate
Supplies Needed
An image of choice (An image with a plain border won't work well, especially white, but I found a decent work around.)
PSP XI - (Should work in earlier versions)
Simple - (Used for the optional background only.)
To make things easier for you I've broken this tutorial down into 4 parts.
Part 1: Preparation
Part 2: Making the Frame
Part 3: Making the Optional Background
Part 4: Making the Footer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Part 1: Preparation

1. File > Open
Open your image.

2. Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Close your original image.

3. Image > Resize
Settings:
Lock aspect ratio = Checked
Resample using = Bicubic
Resize all layers = Checked
Width = No wider than 500 pixels
Height = No higher than 400 pixels

NOTE: If your image is smaller than this, you may skip ahead to step 5.

4. Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
Settings:
Radius = 1.00
Strength = 47
Clipping = 5
Luminance only = Checked

5. Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)
Minimize 1 of your copies.

6. Dropper Tool (E)
Choose 2 colors from your image, 1 light and 1 dark.
Left click for your foreground color (light color) and right click for your background color (dark color).

7. Edit > Copy (Ctrl + C)

Part 2: Making the Frame

1. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Symmetric = Checked
Pixels = 1
Color = Dark Color

TIP: In the color swatch in your add border screen, you can right click on the color and from there you can choose your foreground or your background color, or a color you have used recently.

2. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Light Color

3. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Dark Color

4. Image > Add Borders

21. Magic Wand Tool
Select your new border.

22. Edit > Paste Into Selection (Ctrl + Shift + L)
(If your image isn't on your clipboard anymore open your minimized image and Edit > Copy, then minimize it again and go back to your main image.)

NOTE: When rewriting this tutorial I discovered using an image with a white edge to it, the Sandstone effect make it look awful, it was almost plain white and the Kaleidoscope effect was almost completely white with no detail. So feel free to try Option 1 or Option 2. If you're daring, try both. LOL I used option 2 with my plain white edged image.

Option 1:

23. Effects > Texture Effects > Sandstone
Settings:
Blur: 35
Detail: 39
Luminance: 17
Angle: 25
Color: Your dark color you chose earlier

Option 2:

23. Effects > Plugins > Simple > Quick Tile

Everyone back together here:

24. Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise

25. Effects > Reflection Effects > Kaleidoscope
Settings:
Horizontal Offset: -74 (minus 74)
Vertical Offset: 65
Rotation Angle: 279
Scale Factor: 61
Number of Petals: 17
Number of Orbits: 4
Radial Suction: 77
Edge Mode: Repeat

NOTE: If these settings don't look good for you, feel free to play around and try to get something you do like. Click on the dice and it will randomize the settings.

26. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Blur = 18

27. Selections > Select None

28. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 1
Color = Dark Color

29. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Light Color

30. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Dark Color

31. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Light Color

32. Selections > Select All

33. Selections > Modify > Contract
Settings:
Pixels = 4

34. Selections > Invert

35. Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel

36. Selections > Select None

37. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Color = Black

38. Image > Add Borders
Settings:
Pixels = 5
Color = Light Color

39. Magic Wand Tool
Select your new border.

40. Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise

41. Layers > New Raster Layer

42. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout
Settings:
Blur: 5

43. Selections > Select None

44. Layers > New Raster Layer

45. Add the artist's watermark.

46. Layers > New Raster Layer

47. Add your watermark.

48. Export using your jpg optimizer settings at 25%. (Keep this image open for later)

Part 3: Making the Optional Background

NOTE: If you prefer to do your own background feel free. :)

1. Restore your duplicated image from earlier.

2. Effects > Plugins > Simple > Quick Tile

3. Effects > Plugins > Simple > Diamonds

4. Effects > Plugins > Simple > 4 Way Average

5. Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise
Settings:
Noise = 10%

6. Layers > New Raster Layer

7. Flood fill with white, your light color, or your dark color. Your choice. :)

8. Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise

9. Lower the opacity on your top layer to your liking.

10. Export using your jpg optimizer set at 25%. :) (close this image as we are done with it)

Part 4: Making the Footer

1. Working on your header image again.
Window > Duplicate (Shift + D)

2. You can now close your header image as we are done with it.

3. Image > Resize
Settings:
Width/Height = No larger than 250 Pixels, the shorter side will self-adjust.

4. Redo your watermarks because after you resized your image, your watermarks are illegible.

5. Save and export using your jpg optimizer set at 25% again.

That's it, we're done! :) Put your letter together in Letter Creator and share with your friends. :)
